Aging Motorhead icon Lemmy Kilmister celebrated his 50th birthday and his
band's 20th anniversary last week at the Los Angeles rocker Mecca, the
Whisky, with an "A" list of merry-makers including Rancid, Iggy Pop, and
Metallica.

The evening's entertainment opened with video taped greetings from Anthrax,
White Zombie, the Ramones, and Ozzy Osbourne among others. Motorhead then
took the stage, proving they still have a few brain cells, and pulled out
material spanning their two decade career.

Metallica surprised everyone when they took the stage disguised as five
Lemmy's. Lemmy himself was so tickled he joined the faux Lemmy's for an
encore.

"If it wasn't for Lemmy and Motorhead," Metallica's Lars Ulrich testified,
"there wouldn't be a Metallica."

Tribute performances were also made by Lemmy's diverse body of fans including
Alice In Chains' Mike Inez, the Offspring, 2 Live Crew, Bobcat Gothwait, and
even Johnny Depp.

Madonna, sorry about missing the event, faxed a lipstick sealed message. Tom
Arnold, of all people, presented it to the crowd. Madonna had this to say to
Lemmy: "Happy Birthday, you old fart!"
