Yeah, well-I saw Robert Plant forget the words to Whole Lotta Love! He had to
whirl around and look at the teleprompter...
Hey, the problem is not the guy forgetting the lyrics, it's the audience
knowin' em too well! :-) In clubs-- or the good old daze of low-fi concert
concert sound-- you never hear/heard 'em anyway!
Most people should have this problem...have having written such a huge body
of work... but the thing is, sometimes you're looking at something or someone
in the crowd, or thinking of your laundry list...Fewer people probably notice
when someone plays a wrong note or plays a fill differently.... it may only
be the lyrics that are supposed to be written in stone... Bob Dylan, on the
other hand, is always changing things up... and not just melodies or
arrangements... why can't you revise later on? And if you want to hear it
like the record, you should probably just stay home and listen to the record!
Sometimes, the only time something comes out a particular way IS on the
record-- it never happened before and it'll never happen again! That's the
magic..
Or sometimes one's focus goes astray...
But hey, if most of you were concentrating on YOUR work, you wouldn't be
reading this right now!
