No, not quite.  The lyrics seem to indicate that the android replica
was taken along with him on the flight, in lieu of the real thing.
Or am I confused?

I think the moaning another's name was just bad luck, adding insult to
injury.  I think it was just a glitch, not misprogramming.  ("Playing
up again" implies it usually works.)
