just a coupla stuff:

hurry on sundown is a novel by John Wain, (late 50s, mid 60s?) a very
british attempt at a beat novel: young lad goes down t' London, gets a job
involving art, meets a beatnik chick, is overawed by her freedom &c., has
sex with her in the barn she lives in (this is very vague memory stuff now),
and generally the mood of the book is "hurry on sundown, see what
tomorrow brings ... there's hundreds of people like you and me" etc.

line from SM, other side of the sky is a short story by Arthur C Clarke (typical
of him, nice title, shite all the rest of the way)

the spinrad novel agent of chaos contains an organisation call the
brotherhood of assassins, not unlike the hashashin (i'm pretty sure its spelt
with an 'n' and not an 'm'), who also keep cropping up in Burroughs novels
(william not edgar). Burroughs also had an orgone accumulator (according
to i can't remember which Kerouac novel). Agent of Chaos also contains a
passage which compares the Ordered world of the Guardians (hegemonic
controllers, those the brotherhood of a's are fighting against), cocooned by
the (false) knowledge of there being no other lifeforms, to an egg, which
begins to read a little like in the egg.

Oh, and its definitely a muezzin on Church: maintaining hw's occasional
islamic flavour

the spoken bit at the beginning of who's gonna... on independent days,
"this is a very heavy microphone stand ... no queen could burnish (?
memory fails) this" seems to be a piss-take of one frederick mercury and his
mike thrusting antics (ahem).

oh, and whoever said they prefer their sf to be full of alien-zapping, well,
the Transplanetary Association Of InterSpecial Hybridities is looking in on
you now...
