Has anyone answered Martyn's questions yet? Apologies if I've missed
something...
Anyway, it's a quiet evening at work so I thought I'd investigate. Beats
working. Turns out that a Jeepster is a kind of Jeep (see below). Rather
guessable really, especially given MB's car fixation ;-)
And a MB/HW link? It seems that MB had a TV show that HW appeared on in
1977. I found this at http://www.thing.de/projekte/future/calcoll.htm
" What you see above is a shot of Calvert and Adrian Shaw appearing with
Hawkwind in the Marc Bolan Show, 1977, playing "Quark, Strangeness and
Charm" - quite a rare TV performance of the band. "

To quote from the American Jeepster Club Web pages
(http://www.off-road.com/4x4web/jeepster/jeephist.htm) :

"What is a Jeepster? This is the most often heard question when the
conversation turns to Jeeps and our little niche. Our Jeeps are unique and
some say ugly (better looking than a Scrambler!), which is why we have
provided a brief history and pictures of the Jeepster models."
<snip>
"First released on April 3, 1948, the Willys "VJ" Jeepster was hoped to add
spice to their lineup. Unfortunately, it was not publicized adequately and
sold very lightly. Having only 72 horsepower and two-wheel drive did not
help sales either. Only 19,132 Jeepsters were produced over a period of less
than three years.
" "The Jeepster represented an effort to broaden the Willys product line,
tapping into a market that was more youth-oriented than that of the Station
Wagon, more urbane than that of Jeep Universal". "
