Can't argue about vampires and Anne Rice, even without having read a
single word about her.  My "(Un)Dead Genres" defined "vampire fiction"
as "beaten to a bloodless pulp."  Still, I can overlook what's been done
to the concept to appreciate something a little older, like Tieck's "The
Bride of the Grave" (1790s, I think).

I agree about _Tyranny and Mutation_ standing up better; that and
_Secret Treaties_, or the first disc of _Workshop of the Telescopes_, or
_Imaginos_, are what I put in the CD player for background when I'm at
the computer.  AoF or Spectres, just to hear specific songs.
