The Cawthorn stuff was a strip in (I think) _New Worlds_ - I know I've seen
some reprints in some of Trev Hughes' stuff.  It dates from the '70s, and is
similar in feel to the Butterworth "Hawklords" books.

The Matt Howarth SAVAGE HENRY with Hawkwind is still more or less current,
and Trev has some in stock last I knew.

Neither of these is really like the idea for your project, as I understand
it, though.  I'd say go for it!
