Well, Balthazar, just what is that "awful truth"?  The old Christmas
carol "We Three Kings" might give the answer.  Balthazar's part goes as
follows: "Myrrh is mine; its bitter perfume / Breathes a life of
gathering gloom; / Sorr'wing, sighing, bleeding, dying, / Seal'd in the
stone-cold tomb."  Seems Balthazar wasn't as optimistic as his two
friends--
