Yup, it  has a valve output stage (that also drives the 'phone socket).
I've even found a place that offers a "hot-rodding" service for them (don't
know what they do - probably a clock ugrade & stuff like that).  The
downside is there's no digital out, so you can't add a DAC, but I can't
gripe too much - I bought it off a friend (little used) for 250 notes and
he threw in about 125 quids worth of Furukawa interconnects *vbg*  It
sounds much more "analogue" than most players.
