Hey, lil' ab, somehow I knew you were gonna say something on this thread ;-)

>>Then I heard "Handful of rain" and that was it. I'm hooked.

>The first post-Cris album (dedication inside the sleeve). Skolnick

>song that would have been big in any of the last three decades.

Agreed ! ;-)

>>I highly recommend this album to any prog rock
>>fan. Every song on it works for me (except for the first one, and
>>"Nothing's going on", which is also a bit too heavy for my taste). It's
>>an amazing album.

>Taunting Cobras? Man that sucker rocks! The heavy numbers carry lead
>and the ochestratal numbers are uh, well orchestrated.

Yeah, that's the one. Just a bit too heavy for my poor ears ;-) I can listen
to it, though, but it just doesn't do much for me...

>Have you checked out Q'ryche's Hear in the
>Now Frontier? I'm thinking King's X.

Yeah, as a matter of fact, I've bought that one while I was in Denver too. A
bit disappointed, I have to admit. Or maybe it's just one of those albums
that take time to grow on you. For the moment, I'm not impressed. The only
song which I really liked at the first listen is "You". The rest just sounds
all pretty much the same to me *shrug* To me, "Empire" and - most of all -
"Promised Land" are my favorites from Queensryche.

>>Hey, if there's any Savatage fan reading this, what other album would
>>you

>>very
>>interesting...

>Well I'm certainly a fan of this band

I knew it !!! *grin*

>and offer the following. Someone
>already said that Streets, A Rock Opera and Gutter Ballet are pretty
>good. I have heard pieces of Streets and its in a similar vien to Edge
>and Rain. If you like the progressive stuff then you should look for
>Dead Winter Dead, Al Pitrelli on guitar).

Yeah, that one does look good... And Al Pitrelli is great. I loved him in
Asia too :-)

>There was a Christmas project put together by Oliva
>called the Trans Siberian Orchestra, featured Zak, Jon and another band
>member or two and I think guys from bands like Shadow Gallery and Dream
>Theater. I have yet to find this one but have heard good things about
>it.

I've heard of that, and that one looks great too ! Ooohh... I think I'm
gonna be spending lots of money on this band in the future ! Oh boy...

>I will warn you about early Savatage though, specifically things
>like Power of Night, Sirens, and Fight For the Rock. They sound nothing
>like the recent work.

>From what I've heard, they started off as some sort of death or trash metal
band ?

>Well thats my take, go for Dead Winter Dead, Streets and perhaps Gutter
>Ballet and avoid the early stuff with perhaps the exception of Mountain
>King. Don't know about the songs on that one but its a tres kewl cover.

Agreed on the cover. And I like the title too ;-)

Thanks for the input !

>OB CD - Threshold, Wounded Land <-------This is a great Prog Rock choice
>for you Alex.

Really ? I'll look for it... what does it sound like ? (if at all
describable ;-)
