Thanks Peter and William. I think I'll pass on this band.
I didn't think they'd be like Radio Birdman, but I was hoping they'd
be some little known combination of The Dead Milkmen and Bob
Calvert's styles of music/lyrics.

I saw them only once, and that was a long time ago - late 70's some time. I
remember their singles "My canary has circles under his eyes" and "Your
feet's too big", and their general silliness, but not much else. I remember
they were very lively on-stage and got out among the crowd a lot. Here's
what the Who's Who of Australian Rock says:

"Melbourne 1969-1975. Based around the Conway Brothers, Captain Matchbox
successfully combined humour, theatre, rock music and other conglomerations
into one act. Many well known musicians passed through this band.
'Mischievous melting pot of roaring twenties carnival sideshow entertainment
and vaudevillian lunacy with liberal doses of jug band blues and
instrumental mayhem' (A. Fayne). Re-formed in 1976 as Matchbox and performed
with the Australian Performing Group. They were later known as the Soapbox
Circus. 1978 saw the formation of Circus of Oz, Australia's first
rock'n'roll circus, touring here and overseas. They finally broke up in 1981."

If you'd like a list of members (too long to post right now) and a
discography, email me privately.

Pete.
