A friend has a guide to the whiskies of the world, by someone who claims to
have drunk every single one.  Apart from a few scottish malts, the authors
favourites are bourbons (tho' not Jack Daniels), which surprised me.

If you're looking for a good whiskey (Irish variety), IMO the best is Green
Spot.  It's not widely available.  There's a pub in Soho, London, which
stocks all the Irish whiskeys.  Other than that, I know it's available in
the whiskey shop opposite the Dail in Dublin.  It really is a good whiskey.
