Last Saturday night I heard a DJ playing the new Monster Magnet
single 'Space Lord'. The album is due out within a month
(different dates in UK and USA) and will be named 'Powertrip'.

I've had the good fortune to be playing an advance tape of this
new album for a month already, and if you enjoyed 'Dopes..' then
you should feel at home with 'Powertrip'. There are still those
unique lyrics that make this band so great, plus a large amount
of repetitive, fuzzy, loud guitars.

My only knocks are quite minor, one being that the production is
pristine clean. Perhaps I just react negatively to being spoiled :-)
but there doesn't seem to be as much fuzz in the mix as on albums
past. This is attributable directly to the ultra-clean recording,
reportedly by whoever mixed the recent Metallica CDs.

Don't let that stop you. There are some really great, catchy,
stomping, wailing, drug-referencing, pop-culture-checking tunes
on this album. It is probably a step further away from 'Spine
of God', but still really decent. Watch for it!
