If all you want is 500,000 hits, why don't you just turn something like
WebJammer loose on the page?  (The Network Research Group here at
Virginia Tech uses it in their WWW performance work, for replaying log
files in compressed time.)  It would sure notch up the hit count; it's
kind of like a flood ping for WWW sites. >;-)

Oh, I see, you want 500,000 users, not hits.  (You could say they all
went through the same proxy.;)

Yeah, I know, such levity is probably inappropriate for such a solemn
and weighty topic.  So, sue me. :-)
