Hi Jeremy and welcome to the list and the world of Hawkwind. I
usually don't reply to many messages, but yours reminded me of myself
a few years back.

I got into Motorhead back in 1983 when I was about 15, and then about
3 years later I got a cassette of "Master of the Universe" (the UA
compilation).

This resulted in immediate Hawkwind fascination. It took years, but
I've finally got most of the mandatory stuff. Funny, most of the stuff
would've caused me revulsion back in my "metal or die" teen years.
Now I really have grown to appreciate a lot of the ambient stuff, such
as Harvey's solo stuff, Simon House's solo stuff, and even the 2nd
Hawkwind album that I got as a current release (It is the Business of
the Future...). I hated it at the time, but it's okay now. Electric
Tepee was the first Hawkwind album that I bought while still current,
and it was pretty cool.

I'll leave the recommendations to the other guys, but it all depends how
far you're willing to leave the metal stuff behind. I still love metal,
and Hawkwind (and Pink Floyd) are my only excursions that leave the hard
rock world.

But at least get all the bonafide albums, including the live stuff.
Don't worry about compilations, and only the Calvert and Brock solo
stuff is mandatory. I'm trying to get more in that area, but it's not
that easy to come by some of it.

Bye for now,
