HW miscellany

Dear boclers,

three vaguely HW related things.

In the magazine DJ, dated 16-29 Jan 99 there is an article entitled Heroes
of Electronic Music, a definitve A-Z of people who made house happen. It
includes short entries on such people as the BBC Radiophonic Workshop,
Bowie, Eno, Hillage, Jarre, Krautrock, Oldfield and Tangerine Dream. The
HW entry includes a couple of quotes from Dave, including a reiteration
about the Edge of Darkness project. He also describes an 'electronic box
built by a guy who designs armaments for RAF fighter aircraft. It's for
Ron and has 9 oscialltors in. They all cross over so you get these wierd,
warped patterns of sound that make you feel a bit peculiar, quite a
dangerous piece of machinery. It's got a theremin built into it so he can
actually play it from about ten feet away'.

In last Friday's Guardian there was a piece about the alternative top 100
albums, which is a usual voting list of various music biz types, with all
the obvious records forbidden. They wisely ask Lemmy, who wants one more
vote than everyone else, and he lists his top 3 as Sacrifice (and if you
didn't think your latest production was the best in the world then why
bother recording it?), Damnedx3 (by the Damned) and With the Beatles, by
(OK, you've probably guessed this one too).

All those Big train fans, who thought the best thing was the stare out
contest, the cartoonist who originally drew this (as a comic) is called
Paul Hatcher. back in 93-95 he produced a comic called Time we left. They
have been re-issued and there is a strong HW theme running through issues
2 and 3. A two page spread on Master of the Universe and some Startrek
people (First Officer Davy, Cheif Bass Specialist, Ensign Navigator
Chadwick, drum division, and Captain D Brock) trying to find another naked
dancer to replace Stacia. Issue 2 makes very little sense, but is quite
fun. Issue 3 has more story and less HW references, but anything with a
chapter headed Project Zarozinia, followed by In the Beginniing cannot be
all bad.
So why is it that out legion of comic shop owners didn't inform us of
such a thing?

Cheers

Mike w
