tribute to a good friend

Today I find myself trying to do one of the saddest things I could imagine,
writing an obituary for a very good friend of mine, Michael Pearce. I knew him from school in Swaffham, aged twelve
onwards and upwards till last weekend when he died at Watton, aged 34.
He was an amazing character, very open, very honest, nothing was to much trouble, what you saw was very much what you got. I loose track of the number of times we'd bump into each other, stop off for a smoke, blast some hawkind and have a bloody good laugh at everything. It didn't matter how down I'd be, we always parted company allot happier, some sanity found and some joy put back in place.
The reason for me posting this here is that Michael thought nothing of travelling across the uk to get to see Hawkind, most of you would recognise who I spoke of if you saw him, lots of you spoken to him, he was an avid fan who enjoyed every aspect of Hawkind & related bands. Some of my best memories of him are when we travelled to the London gigs, in particular, the Technicolour Dreams, getting lost in London, so stoned that we were never sure how we'd managed to get there or back again. My fondest memory was of the gig that was advertised as having a fancy dress competition, I think it was Kilburn,
guess who was the only one who turned up in fancy dress, in a parrot costume ! I can still picture the look on people's faces when they saw him, but couldn't quite ask why he was wearing it.
He will be cremated at Kings Lynn crematorium this Wednesday 12th, the service starts at 11:30 and his parents would welcome anyone who can make it, if not, then please remember him the next time you play some Hawkwind.
I guess the next time I see Hawkwind will be very strange indeed.
