I have a feeling Bowie accomplished something similar to this with 'Space
Oddity' - though in his case the original release was the minor hit, and the
re-release was the biggie, and the gap may have been more than 6 years.
==========
"space oddity" first came out, in england anyway, as a single in '69.
i first heard it on what they used to call an "underground" phoenix radio
station, summer '70.
looked for it for 'years'; then the first 2 bowie lp's [not counting the
deram, etc stuff] were re-released by RCA app. fall 72 in the wake of 'ziggy
stardust'.
i suppose the re-release of "space oddity" as a single followed shortly
thereafter but i cant place when.
there wasnt a 6-year gap though; that'd be '75, when bowie was having hits
such as 'fame', etc.
