Actually, in some cases, it can actually _protect_ you. Me, for instance, I
use Eudora 1.5.2. It doesn't open attachments of its own volition. Plus, as
technology evolves, viruses tend to follow the trend and are often
specifically designed to attack softwares such as Outlook. So my old
outdated Eudora actually protects me.

OTOH, the last updated version of whatever client you use will only be safe
until the next virus comes along.
