ahhhh   good ole clowns & childhood memories

On my sons 5th or 6th birthday we hired a clown for his party

By the end of his gig he had been reduced from a happy clown to a somewhat depressed clown

Why - the birthday boy kept scowling at him & looking at him as if he was a rather silly human being
"No dignity" etc

He has lightened up alot since then hoever

  i remember my mom taking me to westgate mall in brockton; must have been 
  1969/70; to wait in line to met bozo and get his pic signed. it was actually 
  one of the more disappointing experiences of my childhood. 

  after about an hour on line, wich is an eternity to a 6 yr old, it was my 
  turn to face the great man and offer my copy of his promo pic for him to 
  scribble on. i looked up into his face...and said, 'You're not BOZO!' 

  my mom scooted me out  of line, autographed pic in hand...of course the 
  imposter denied it. but i knew...I KNEW... some other phony-bozo...a 
  pseudo-bozo... a stand-in...a blasphemous FAKE...was impersonating my hero. 
  he was signing the real bozos name on the real bozo's picture... 

  no i don't still have the picture, and you might be surprized, because if you 
  know me, you know i keep such things from impotant periods of my life (OK-- 
  and some from not-so-important-periods...), but i discarded this defiled 
  picture as soon as i got back in the car. 

  no tears that day; just the cold realization that life is cruel, and that 
  things are not always what they seem. I resumed my kidhood, somehow older and 
  wiser...
