In some cases this is true especially if you have an older CD player, but if
you have a 24 bit high end model it will just be a case of sound preference.

Japan release more HDCD discs than anywhere else, but sometimes they do not
specify this on the sleeve or disc.

Recent remaster cardboard replica editions of the Doors catalogue are all
HDCD.  Again nothing on the packaging will inform you of this.

With the advent of multichannel DVD audio and the Phillips/Sony puppy SACD,
one could be forgiven for thinking that the future of HDCD looks somewhat
uncertain.
