HW: hawks/fantasy

TELL you my NAME?! Please, allow me to clutch the few remaining shreds of
dignity to my wasted frame...(by telling you off-list...)

And the other thing, Ginger's departure...I will quote from the Holy Book
(This Is Hawkwind, Do Not Panic):

'Harvey: "Until this rehearsal I had adopted the policy of with my work of
just doing more or less what I liked. If no-one like what I played then
fuck it. But what happened with Ginger made me think. I'm very wary now."
'

...blah blah about the row between Harvey and Ginger...too long to quote,
but Ginger calls Harvey "the worst bass player in the world". Harvey goes
for a walk to sort his head out & comes back to ask the Captain where he,
DB, stands. The Captain says: "...*you're* employing *him* so you've got
to stand up and say what you want."

The book becomes a bit unclear at this point, seeming to say that Huw and
the Captain swing round behind Harvey, with DB telling Ginger to piss off.
Which he does. I do remember how it was reported in the UK music press
(Sounds) at the time. Not quoting directly here, but paraphrasing from
memory:

"Ginger Baker has left Hawkwind after a dispute with bassist Harvey
Bainbridge. Baker told Bainbridge he was the worst bass player in the
world. The worst bass player in the world then sacked the best drummer in
the world!"

2 different versions of events, believe as you will...personally I can't see
Harvey sacking anyone, he is too nice.

BTW in case I am giving off anti-Harvey vibes, I wasn't a fan of his bass
playing *all* the time (though he totally makes tracks like Free Fall and
High Rise) but liked his synths a lot, and unlike Ginger Baker, Harvey was
HW through and through. I would a thousand times prefer to see Harvey in
Hawkwind than G.Baker esquire, amazing drummer though he is/was.
