Indeed, Solaris is when Sun chose to leave the True Path[tm] of BSD
they'd followed with their previous SunOS releases and munge in
SysV-isms ("to get the best of both worlds"), resulting in the hybrid
abomination that is Solaris...

We shall agree to disagree, then. ;-)

(Actually, you can get get a "free"---as in [almost?] zero
dollars---Solaris, but it's not "free" as in open source.  Kind of
like how you can get a "hobbyist licensed" version of Tru64 for those
of us that have DEC Alphas...)
