I mentioned this to a friend of mine who is quite close to such things,
and her responses were (identifying items removed to protect the
innocent *G*):

"Yawn . . . I've been hearing all about it since Sunday . . started
with the phone calls ( I wasn't going, I'm not a shareholder or on the
committee) and the reports are getting more fantastic and more rabid,
"its all a conspiracy . . . it was planned from the beginning . . . . it
was thru corporate pressure . . .it was aliens . . . . a big boy did it
and ran away. . . . " ) I still think that if the BGG committee
suspected they would be shut down they should have crossed the Ts and
dotted the Is to ensure they couldn't be got on bureaucratic processes
such as applications to the council to close roads and such like then
they could point to 'political' reasons for its closure. "

Also:
"the green group shop is becoming a focus for the whingeing, moaning and
conspiracy theories, I'm staying well out of it as the tendency is to
fly off into fantasy and feeling hard done by."

And:
"The main p-off for us is the assumption that all of those who would
have gone to the BGG now think they can turn up at our party (and invite
their mates) and we have no say in it! We are resisting it being
turned into a mini BGG as the crowd who want to come have no respect for
anyones space, ideas, preferences or choice of music, they expect to
arrive, be fed and watered & to set themselves up at the centre of the
party and play diddly (dirgy, miserable and endless!) music all night
with no regard for others, or the fact the place they choose will
probably be under my bedroom window (Gardez loo!) And whats more they
expect us to be not only grateful for the music but attentive, they
often complain when people in pubs continue to chat while they are
playing. . . . (close rant!)"

Make of that what you will!!

Cheers
