 I'll go along with that too, it's a bit cheesy at times, but plenty of
mad ideas, and I love the town sheriff as the "everyman" character, who
often figures out the obvious that the "mad scientist" types just can't
see!

I can recommend Eureka as half decent sf.  Good classic utopian mad
science stuff.
