BOC

You're right, most of the guys are still at it (except Lanier) so that's good.
Still kicking myself for missing Brain Surgeons when they swung through Kansas
City, I bet there was a small crowd.

Well, Imaginos was really an Al solo project on which Sony slapped some Eric and
Buck overdubs and released as BOC -- which is not to say that it is not awesome,
but "band" is a nebulous concept in relation to its creation.  (Al worked on it
for years, with various contributors, from what I understand.)

But, yeah, it is probably as good or better than the sum of the best of BÖC's
Al-less output. :)  Of course, Pearlman's and Meltzer's associations with BÖC
also faded away around the same time as, or shortly after, Al left.  That didn't
really help BÖC's songwriter fund either.  I think Al himself has observed that
Buck, for example, has great ideas -- but they come or develop rather slowly. So
it would seem that there is simply not enough of a "critical mass" in the
post-Fire BÖC to sustain continued songwriting.

Meanwhile, skimming through the Brain Surgeons' back catalog -- OK, maybe its
not all blindingly brilliant :) but certainly enough of it is damned rockin' to
clarify (as if there had been any doubt) that you need songwriters to produce
new material.  (Denial of Death continues to kick my arse whenever I give it a
spin!)

But, hey, Buck and Eric seem happy enough doing what they're doing -- otherwise
one supposes they wouldn't bother to do it, so who are we to demand new albums?
I haven't seen 2ÖC, but I saw 3ÖC a few times, and I enjoyed the shows.

Cheers,
Carl
