Music as a drug with triangle cards

Couldn't it be those investigators mentioned in the song were creative
enough to invent their own cards? It seems like something that would
have evolved from using a larger set of game cards, with the
expectation that you're going to be recording alot of hit or miss
results and don't need the complication of 52 cards with detailed
printing on them so you simplify it to 4 very different ones.
