BOC: Influences in literature/Undine

Heck, right here in my hometown of Bellefonte, PA, we have the Undine Fire
Company (though it's pronounced UN-dine rather than Un-DEEN).  But, speaking
of Pearlman and literary references, the 1960 John Barth novel The Sot-Weed
Factor, which was quite popular on colleges in the sixties, tells the story
of a man who adopts the guises of various important historical personages
throughout his life in an effort to chart the course of human history
(particularly American history); he also possesses the uncanny ability to
alter his physical appearance at will.  Sound familiar?
