I bought a Dual CS-505-II turntable in the mid/late 80's.  It runs like
a champ, and sounds great (at least it did last I used it, which was
several years ago now, as it is in ol' Blighty and I'm in the US).  I
don't know if Dual are still on the go, but I wholeheartedly recommend
that turntable as a great sounding unit for its price (which was ~100
quid, I seem to recall)...
