OFF: Magma bass sound

Hi folks,

as we have some other Magma fans and a lot of bass-players on this list I
thought here's the best place to ask:
Does someone know how I can get that typical Jannik Top/Bernard Paganotti
bass-sound? You know, that grumbling powerful sound that's so typical for
Magma. I have both a Fender J (I think Top plays one, too) and a
Steinberger bass and I tried a lot of effects (Fuzz had the best results)
but I only come close, never get it really right. Any ideas or suggestions?
