HW fest: where should I stay?

Where should I stay while in London (I'll be there for a few days before and
after the fest)?  Any recommendations as to general locale?  I'd like to be
near record stores, bookstores, restaurants... cool stuff....

Then too, regarding the fest, I'm not too keen on camping and would prefer a
hotel... is exeter near enough for driving between fest and lodging?
